 FOOD LION AND EASTER SEALS RAISE $160,000
 THROUGH SHOP AND CARE PROGRAM
 /ADVANCE/ CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Easter Seal Society of North Carolina and Food Lion, Inc., in cooperation with 32 food manufacturers and food brokers have raised $160,000 to help provide rehabilitation services to children and adults with disabilities in North Carolina. Tom E. Smith, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Food Lion presented the check yesterday during the annual Easter Seal Telethon.
 The money was raised through vendor support of a promotion called Shop and Care. The program began yesterday (March 8 and will continue through April 19 in more than 325 Food Lion stores across North Carolina.
 Products of companies supporting this Easter Seal program will be highlighted by special shelf tags and other promotional tie-ins during the promotional period. Customers can show their support of these products through their purchases during the promotion.
 The Easter Seal society is recognized as one of the most successful community-based health agencies in the state. The organization has been assisting children and adults with disabilities in North Carolina since 1945.
 Nearly 90 percent of the North Carolina Easter Seal Society's expenses are used for program services. More than 95 cents of every dollar donated to Easter Seals in North Carolina last year remained in North Carolina for services to people in the state.
 Easter Seal services include home health; residential camping and recreation; respite car; stroke and post-polio support groups; durable medical equipment purchases; physical, occupational and speech therapy; and advocacy and client public information.
