Let the children help make these novelty chocolates and gift wrap them in boxes. They take just 10-15 minutes, plus one hour chilling. The recipe is enough for eight chocolates.

1 orange 225g/8oz milk chocolate, broken in pieces

One quarter tsp ground mixed spice

Coloured sugar balls to decorate

Using the smallest holes on a grater, finely grate the zest of the orange.

Put the chocolate into a heatproof bowl and microwave on High (850W) for one minute. Holding the bowl with a cloth, stir the chocolate. Return it to the microwave on High for 30 seconds until the chocolate is just softened. Add the spice and orange zest and stir to mix.

Drop several sugar balls into eight cubes of a flexible tree-shaped (or other shape such as star) ice-cube tray. Spoon in the chocolate.

Chill for at least one hour, then, with a plate ready, upturn the ice-cube tray. pressing the base of each cube to pop out the chocolates. These can be made ahead and kept in a cool place for up to a week.
