FOGLIETTA ANNOUNCES AT&T/OCEAN SPRAY SWIM MEET

FOGLIETTA ANNOUNCES AT&T/OCEAN SPRAY SWIM MEET
 /ADVANCE/ WASHINGTON, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The AT&T/Ocean

Spray Swim Meet was announced today by U.S. Rep. Tom Foglietta at the Baker Pool in West Philadelphia.
Foglietta won the support of the two national corporations to sponsor the swim meet that will take place over three weekends in August. Part of the funds will support the swim meet, and the balance will support the city's "Pull for the Pools" fund-raising effort to open the city's 76 pools on time.
The 10 recreation districts first will hold preliminary rounds and there will be three final meets: an intermediate meet for above-average but not skilled swimmers ages 10 to 15; the "Little Quaker Meet" for young swimmers ages 5 through 9; and the Novice championship meet for experienced, all-year-around swimmers ages 10 to 15.
"It is so important for the kids of this city to have a place to cool off," Foglietta said. "Last year's failure to keep the pools open through the entire summer was a tragedy. I am proud to help make the 1992 summer pool program a success."
"Ed Rendell and I have been working together on two important programs -- this program for the pools and an enhanced federally supported summer jobs program to put Philadelphia kids in the job market. I hope this will help summer 1992 be a great one for Philadelphia's kids.
"I want to thank AT&T and Ocean Spray for their strong support. After working with Philadelphia on this project, I am sure they will conclude that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
"AT&T is delighted to partner with the city of Philadelphia and Ocean Spray in sponsoring the Pull for the Pools swim meet," said AT&T (NYSE: T) Vice President James B. Ginty. "We hope that the competition will help make the summer more enjoyable for the children, and that it will encourage them to sharpen their skills and reach for excellence."
John Lawlor, a spokesman for Ocean Spray, said: "Ocean spray is pleased to join with AT&T in helping to put the 'Pull for the Pools' fund over the top, and is delighted to support this great project which will benefit the youth of Philadelphia."
Foglietta was unable to attend the press conference at Baker Pool because of a vote on the House floor to extend unemployment compensation benefits.
