FMCS Statement on Tentative Settlement Between United Steelworkers Local 7-669 And the Honeywell Metropolis Works.

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Allison Beck, Acting Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), today announced that with the assistance of federal mediators, a tentative settlement has been reached between Honeywell's Metropolis Works and the United Steelworkers Local 7-669 in Metropolis, IL, potentially ending a work stoppage that began August 2, 2014.

The work stoppage has affected a nuclear fuel production facility operated by the company in the Illinois community. FMCS had requested that the parties return to the bargaining table with federal mediation on March 18.

Working under the auspices of FMCS mediators, the union and employer reached a tentative agreement after many hours of intense talks.

Ms. Beck commended FMCS Director of Mediation Services Peter Cheng and FMCS mediator Chris Alford for their roles in bringing both sides together in the bargaining. "We are extremely pleased that we were able to help the union and employer overcome their differences in these challenging and complex negotiations," Ms. Beck said. "Representatives from both sides were willing to put in the long hours that were required, and ultimately they were successful in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. This is a result of their hard work and their commitment to the process."

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification. As is Agency practice, the FMCS will not comment on the substance or content of the agreement or negotiation.
