FM Davutoglu attends dinner held as part of Fourth Turkish Ambassadors Conference.
December 29 2011 (TUR) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu attended a dinner held as part of the Fourth Turkish Ambassadors Conference in the north-western province of Edirne on Thursday. Davutoglu delivered a brief speech at the dinner which was also attended by Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi, Edirne Governor Gokhan Sezer, Turkish ambassadors and deputies from Balkan countries who are of Turkish origin. The Balkans must leave behind the pains of 20th century. We have to reach a peaceful vision from the pain of war. This is not a dream, Davutoglu said. Thanking Baconschi for accepting his invitation and coming to Edirne, Davutoglu said that Turkey and Romania were allies and friends at the same time. Turkish-Romanian friendship will continue forever. Romania is a good model showing respect for different cultures, religions and beliefs, Davutoglu said. The inclusion of Selimiye and Kirkpinar wrestling into the list of World Cultural Heritage was an important development. Edirne must be proud of such values, Davutoglu noted. We have opened a representation of the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Edirne. We will open representations in Izmir and Antalya in addition to Istanbul where we already have a representation. As Turkey grows globally, the scale of its cities will also grow, Davutoglu said. Meanwhile, a concert to be given by Rumelian singer Faruk Yilmaz at the dinner was cancelled after a request by Davutoglu in respect for 35 individuals who lost their lives in Sirnak on Wednesday. The Fourth Turkish Ambassadors Conference will continue in Edirne on Friday.
