FLY ICELANDAIR ANY DAY DIRECT INTO LUXEMBOURG -- THE HEART OF EUROPE
NEW YORK, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Travelers can reap value and begin touring Europe at its very heart by choosing Icelandair, the only airline that flies direct to historically rich Luxembourg.
Icelandair flies all-year-around to Luxembourg, and during the summer, the airline's flights depart daily from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and every day (except Tuesday) from Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
Icelandair offers big savings over the competition to both main cabin and Saga Business Class passengers traveling in the airline's new Boeing 757s. In addition, many of Icelandair's low fares include a free rental car for one week (VAT included) upon arriving in the Grand Duchy. Seeing Luxembourg by car is easy on the country's excellent road network, and visitors can conveniently continue to other parts of Europe. Visitors can also stop in Iceland -- for no extra airfare.
The Grand Duchy may be tiny compared with its neighbors -- Belgium, Germany and France -- but within its 999 square miles lies a land of grandeur. Luxembourg city is surrounded by a countryside filled with river valleys, vineyards and medieval castles. The city radiates both an old-world appeal and sophistication with its museums, galleries, cafes, superb restaurants, outdoor markets and shopping on the "Grand Rue." A number of events in the city are noteworthy, such as the upcoming amusement fair that lasts two weeks beginning Aug. 23.
There are many fine hotels in Luxembourg city and throughout the countryside, where visitors can enjoy a charming (weekend) holiday with special rates on accommodations and meals, or they can arrange to stay in wine growers' homes.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of activities throughout the countryside, such as fishing, hiking, camping, golf, horseback riding, canoeing and tennis. Then, in the countryside towns, travelers can relax along riverside esplanades and enjoy the wine festivals, such as the one in Schwebsange Sept. 6 and in Grevenmacher on Sept. 12 and 13.
From an historical standpoint, the United States has a strong bond with Luxembourg, being a major site of the famous Battle of the Bulge. And, at Hamm, just east of Luxembourg city, is one of the most visited sites in the Grand Duchy -- the American Military Cemetery, where 5,076 servicemen are buried along with General George S. Patton. Also, in Diekirch, there is an outstanding World War II museum with a significant section dedicated to the Battle of the Bulge. Luxembourg holds a great fondness for the American soldier, and Remembrance Day is celebrated every year in Ettelbruck, a small north-central market town. This year it falls on July 5.
