 FLUOR TO HOLD LUNCHTIME SEND-OFF
FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER/KAYAK GOLD MEDALIST GREG BARTON, MARCH 31
Dual Olympic gold medalist Greg Barton, the only American ever to win a gold medal in kayaking, will be training in Newport Bay, Calif., March 19 through 31.
He will be available to talk to reporters before and after his two daily training sessions. The sessions take place near the Newport Aquatics Center from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In 1988, Barton brought home gold medals in both the singles and doubles 1,000-meter kayaking finals in Seoul, Korea. Barton hopes to repeat his award-winning performance in the 1992 Summer Olympic games in Barcelona, Spain.
Barton is a mechanical engineer on leave of absence from Irvine- based Fluor Daniel, which is hosting a lunchtime send-off for him Tuesday, March 31, at the Park Place complex located at 3333 Michelson Drive, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barton's kayak will be on display in the Fountain Court, and he will be available to discuss his aspirations for the summer games.
Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts, hats, stickers and pins at the event will be used to raise funds for Barton and the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Team. Fluor will match 100 percent of the funds raised by employees for Barton.
Fluor Daniel, the principal subsidiary of Fluor Corp., is an international engineering and construction company.
