FLUOR DANIEL AWARDED $40 MILLION CONTRACT BY SOMATOGEN INC. IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Fluor Daniel Inc. has been awarded a $40 million contract by Somatogen Inc. (NASDAQ: SMTG) to build a clinical manufacturing facility in Boulder, Colo. The plant will produce synthetic hemoglobin, the first alternative therapy to red blood cell transfusions. Fluor Daniel's Greenville, S.C., office is providing engineering, procurement and construction management services for the large-scale facility. Construction is under way, and will peak at 150 workers. The facility will be used to expand Somatogen's capacity to produce the synthetic hemoglobin product for use in the United States and international clinical trials as an alternative therapy to blood transfusions.
