FLUKE ELECTS NEW VICE PRESIDENT, REORGANIZES OPERATIONS
EVERETT, Wash., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- John Fluke Mfg. Co. Inc. (AMEX: FKM) announced today that Donald R. Hall has been elected a vice president by the company's board of directors. Hall was also named general manager of the Service Tools Division, formerly Fluke's Service Equipment Group. He succeeds Richard W. Van Saun, a senior vice president of Fluke, who is slated to become general manager of the company's new European operating division, which would be created at the close of the proposed acquisition of Philips Electronics N.V.'s (NYSE: PHG) Test and Measurement operations late this year. (NOTE: See Fluke's press release dated Aug. 26, 1992, "Fluke, Philips Intend to Merge Allied Test & Measurement Businesses").
The company also announced that it is reorganizing its businesses into operating divisions that more closely match its mission. The company intends to have three such operating divisions, including the two named above. The third, to be called the Verification Tools Division, brings together products and activities that were previously in Fluke's Calibration/Communications (Cal/Com) Group and Manufacturing/R&D (M/R&D) Group. This new division will be headed by David E. Katri, vice president and general manager of Fluke's current M/R&D Group. William R. Hoffman, vice president, will now lead the Calibration business in the Verification Tools Division. He will be assisted in the transition by Valentine C. Gersbach, vice president and general manager of the former Cal/Com Group, who will be retiring at the end of the calendar year.
Hall has 14 years of service with Fluke. Most recently, he was director of marketing for the Service Equipment Group. Prior to that, he served as general manager of the Customer Support Services Group.
Van Saun has been with Fluke since 1963, a vice president since 1986 and a senior vice president since 1989. For the last 10 years, he has served as general manager of the Service Equipment Group.
Katri, a 17-year Fluke employee, held the post of director of marketing for the Service Equipment Group before being named general manager of the M/R&D Group in 1988. He was named a vice president in 1991.
Bill Parzybok, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We are very pleased that executives with such broad general management skills are in key leadership positions with the company. Each brings unique strengths to the roles we have asked them to fill."
The organization changes represent a further step in aligning the company with its new mission, which was announced last fall. Each operating division will have its own charger focused on targeted customers, applications and products that are consistent with the company's mission. Each division will be responsible for its own product marketing, development, manufacturing and support. Noted Parzybok, "This structure will assist us in aggressively advancing our mission and business goals, in utilizing and enhancing our core competencies, and more quickly pursuing significant new business opportunities."
Fluke's mission is to be the leader in compact, professional electronic test tools. Fluke focuses on customers in service, manufacturing test, and quality functions in a variety of industries. Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Everett, Wash., Fluke employs more than 2,200 people worldwide, producing revenues of $239.7 million in its most recent fiscal year, ended Sept. 27, 1991. Fluke is a publicly held company, traded under the symbol "FKM" on the American Stock Exchange.
