FLORIDA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION PIPELINE APPROVAL MOVES SUNSHINE AHEAD

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Florida Public Service Commission today approved the SunShine Pipeline Company's application for determination of need for its 515-mile intrastate pipeline.
"The need in Florida for natural gas at competitive rates has never been greater," said SunShine President E.J. Burgin, "and the Public Service Commission's confirmation of that need reinforces our faith in this project."
The Public Service Commission voted unanimously to certify the need for the pipeline from Okaloosa County in the panhandle to Polk County. The pipeline will connect to an interstate pipeline that begins in Pascagoula, Miss., bringing natural gas supplies from a variety of sources including the Mobile Bay Dome area in the Gulf of Mexico.
The intrastate SunShine Pipeline must now be approved under the Florida Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Siting Act. On May 27, the company filed for formal approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the 170-mile long interstate portion of the project.
Both pipelines will be owned by the SunShine Pipeline Company, which is a joint venture of subsidiaries of The Coastal Corporation of Houston, Florida Power Corporation, and TransCanada PipeLines Limited of Calgary. The project is planned for completion in 1995.
