FLORIDA POWER CORPORATION ELECTS TO REDEEM FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS

 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power Corporation announced today that it has elected to redeem on Nov. 22, 1993, all $20,550,000 of its outstanding First Mortgage Bonds, 7 percent Series due in 1988 (the "1988 Bonds").
 The 1988 Bonds will be redeemed at 101.32 percent of their principal amount plus accrued interest from Nov. 1, 1993, to the date of redemption.
 Payment of the redemption price of the bonds will be made on the redemption date upon presentation and surrender of the bonds at the office of the Corporate Trust Operations Department of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, 55 Exchange Place, New York, N.Y.
 Florida Power Corporation is the principal subsidiary of St. Petersburg-based Florida Progress Corporation (NYSE: FPC) and serves 1.2 million customers in central and northern Florida.
