FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT ON ELECTRICAL SAFETY -- CIRCUIT BREAKERS

FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT ON ELECTRICAL SAFETY -- CIRCUIT BREAKERS
MIAMI, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- FPL recommends the following precautionary measures for victims of Hurricane Andrew who do not have electrical service:
-- If you are without electricity and you haven't already done so, turn off all of your circuit breakers in the circuit breaker box, except for one or two that would operate a light.
-- If you cannot get to your circuit breaker box or you do not know how to turn off the circuit breakers, then turn off appliances, leaving only a lamp or clock radio on to alert you when power is restored.
-- If you have any concerns that the electrical system in your house may be in and unsafe condition, call a licensed electrician. Remember standing water anywhere near electrical outlets or entering through damaged walls or roofs may create an unsafe condition.
-- Customers should know that DADE COUNTY BUILDING & ZONING department personnel are attempting to survey the same hard hit areas where we are working. If they determine a home is damaged to the extent if may be unsafe -- structurally or for any other reason -- they will post a notice to this affect. FPL will not be permitted to connect electric service to these homes for the safety of the occupants.
