FLORIDA KEYS ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION RECEIVING POWER FROM FPL

FLORIDA KEYS ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION RECEIVING POWER FROM FPL
TAVERNIER, Fla., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) is now receiving power from Florida Power & Light (FPL). This is not, however, the main line that normally feeds the FKEC system, so limitations still exist.
Commercial and residential FKEC members can now turn on air conditioners set 78 degrees or higher. Water heaters can be switched on today (Friday, Sept. 4) and used for two hours a day.
Members are advised to use other appliances and lighting sparingly through the weekend or until further notice.
A brief outage this morning in a limited area was due to two broken insulators on the transmission line at Windley Key. FKEC restored power quickly but temporarily, and permanent repairs will take several more hours. This is an indication of the fragile condition of the line, so please bear with FKEC during any similar brief outages.
