FLORIDA EDUCATION COMMISSIONER HONORS ALAMO RENT A CAR FOR 'EXEMPLARY CONTRIBUTIONS' TO FLORIDA PUBLIC SCHOOLS

ORLANDO, Fla., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Education Commissioner Betty Castor honored Alamo Rent A Car for its "exemplary contributions" to Florida public schools and presented Charles D. Platt, Alamo's president and CEO, with the commissioner's Business Recognition Award at the Sixth Annual Awards Dinner held this past weekend at Universal Studios Orlando.
Alamo was recognized for its commitment to education by promoting literacy, student artists and filmmakers and outstanding teachers through its own Alamo Achievement Awards, while encouraging adult and community education on a year-round basis.
Commissioner Castor thanked Alamo for its support of education programs, observing that businesses such as Alamo "have done a great deal to increase the momentum for change at the school level during a most challenging year and should be commended for their strong commitment to shaping Florida's future."
"Alamo supports and will continue to support a variety of education programs in our state in the firm belief the education is fundamentally important to Florida's future to which Alamo is deeply committed," Platt said.
Among the numerous education programs in which Alamo participates is a "Partnership in Excellence" with the Broward County Schools Adult and Community Education, with which it works throughout the year on a variety of education programs.
Other Alamo programs include the Alamo Student Art Exhibitions at Tallahassee Regional Airport, Palm Beach International Airport and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport; The Alamo Film Competition For Florida Students; programs with Cities In Schools aimed at reducing the school dropout rate and with the African-American Caribbean Cultural Center, including the "Heritage Festival," and the "Teacher of the Year Award" presented annually at the Alamo-sponsored Spotlight Luncheon, climaxing the Adult and Community Education's school year in Broward County.
The Business Recognition Awards program is sponsored by the Florida Education Foundation. Alamo's award encompasses Region 5, which includes Hendry, Collier, Monroe, Martin, Broward, Palm Beach and Dade counties.
