 FLOODING IN SOUTH CAROLINA CAUSES SPRINT OUTAGE
 Due to heavy rains and extensive flooding in Fairfax, S.C., where


Sprint operates a switching center, customers in parts of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida are unable to place calls on Sprint's long distance network.
 Sprint's Network Operations organization is working to restore long distance traffic to customers in the affected areas. Sprint took the switch out of service this morning at approximately 1:30 a.m. EDT.
 Sprint customers who need to make long distance calls can access other long distance carriers' networks by dialing a five-digit code, then 1, plus the area code and number they wish to reach. The access code for AT&T is 10288. The access code for MCI's network is 10222.
 Currently, there is no estimated time of repair.
 The following areas are affected:

 -- Greensboro -- Greenville
 -- Wilmington -- Columbia

 -- Southern Pines -- Hilton Head
 -- Greenville -- Spartanburg
 -- Raleigh -- North Sumter
 -- Charlotte
 -- Winston-Salem GEORGIA
 -- Durham
 -- Hamlet -- Augusta
 -- Savannah
