FLEMING, KMART SIGN SUPPLY AGREEMENT

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleming Companies Inc., (NYSE: FLM) announced today the signing of a six-year agreement to supply food products to Kmart Corp.'s Super Kmart Centers in areas where Fleming has existing distribution facilities.
Fleming currently serves eight Super Kmart Centers.
"We are extremely pleased to have the Super Kmart Centers as retail customers," said Dean Werries, Fleming's chairman and chief executive officer. "Our excellent geographic dispersion, serving retailers in 36 states, including those in the fast-growing Sun Belt, positions us well to serve the majority of Super Kmart Centers being planned. As this business develops over the next several years, Kmart will become one of our largest customers.
"This agreement provides opportunities for even greater economies of scale which will benefit not only the Super Kmart Centers but our existing retail customers as well," Werries said.
"Kmart has decided at this time that the independent wholesalers system is the most efficient way to provide food products to our Super Kmart Centers," said Joseph E. Antonini, Kmart chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Through technology and existing infrastructure, retailers and food wholesalers can distribute food products more efficiently and at lower costs than self-distributing retailers."
Fleming supplies food, food-related products and retail services to more than 4,800 stores in 36 states, the Caribbean, Mexico and other Central and South American countries.
