FLEETWOOD REPORTS FOURTH QUARTER SALES GAIN
RIVERSIDE, Calif., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleetwood Enterprises

Inc. (NYSE: FLE), the nation's leading producer of recreational vehicles and manufactured housing, today reported preliminary sales for the fourth quarter and the fiscal year ended April 26, 1992. A substantial improvement in recreational vehicle sales led to an overall fourth quarter revenue gain of 19 percent to approximately $457 million, up from $383.1 million last year. Total company revenues for all of fiscal 1992 were about $1.59 billion, up 13 percent from $1.40 billion for the prior year.
Preliminary recreational vehicle sales were up 27 percent to $294 million for the latest 13-week period, compared to $231.9 million in last year's final quarter. All three RV operating divisions recorded significantly higher revenues for the fourth quarter. Motor home revenues climbed 22 percent to about $174 million vs. $141.7 million a year ago, while travel trailer sales surged 32 percent to $107 million, up from $81.6 million last year. Sales for the company's folding trailer division were up a strong 52 percent to approximately $13 million, compared to $8.7 million in last year's fourth period.
Recreational vehicle revenues for all of fiscal 1992 were 22 percent ahead of the previous year, rising to approximately $972 million. Motor home sales recovered to $593 million, an 18 percent rise over fiscal 1991. The travel trailer division posted a 27 percent sales increase to $330 million, while folding trailers gained 40 percent to nearly $49 million.
Fleetwood President Glenn Kummer commented on the improved RV sales stating that, "Last year's sales activity was depressed as a result of the recession and the events occurring in the Middle East. Although sales have not yet returned to the levels of the previous cyclical peak in 1989, the strength of the recovery is encouraging. In addition to a healthier overall RV market, our sales reflect an improvement in market share."
Manufactured housing revenues reached an all-time high in fiscal year 1992. Also, fourth quarter revenues of approximately $153 million were the highest for any quarterly period on record, and 8 percent ahead of last year's $142.1 million. Housing sales rose 1 percent to about $574 million in fiscal 1992, up from $566.6 million in the prior year.
Commenting on the sales increase, Kummer said, "Housing revenues were better than we expected in the fourth quarter. Our domestic business was much stronger this year, which more than offset the absence of $35 million in export business that benefited last year's final quarter. We are very pleased to have just completed an 11th consecutive year of market share growth in manufactured housing. This allowed us to maintain relatively healthy sales levels throughout fiscal 1992 in spite of declining industry volume."
Fleetwood's supply and finance operations together contributed revenues of about $10 million for the fourth quarter and $43 million for the fiscal year. This compares with $9.1 million and $37.6 million, respectively, last year.
Earnings for the fourth quarter and the fiscal year, along with unit shipments by product line, will be announced in about four weeks.
