FLEETWOOD ENTERPRISES IS INDIANA'S TOP RATED HOMEBUILDER; NO. 1 FOR SECOND YEAR

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive year, Fleetwood Enterprises was the No. 1 homebuilder in Indiana, with sales of more than 819 new homes in 1992, and a market share of 17 percent among manufactured homebuilders, according to figures reported by 1992 Statistical Surveys Inc.
For the second year in a row, the manufactured-housing industry will exceed all housing starts. In 1992, the industry produced and sold 210,000 homes nationwide; in 1993 it is projecting industry sales in excess of 250,000 units.
Fleetwood's market share is nearly 5 percentage points over that of its nearest manufactured-housing competitor in Indiana.
"Sales results demonstrate that Indiana buyers are showing a continued preference for homes manufactured by Fleetwood," said John Pollis, director of marketing and design for Fleetwood. "They are responding to top-quality design and construction and to the exceptional warranty coverage that is offered only by Fleetwood Enterprises."
This year Fleetwood introduced its "One/Five Warranty," combining a one-year general warranty with extended, five-year coverage on structural, electrical, and plumbing systems. According to Pollis, the warranty is unprecedented in the manufactured-housing industry, because it has no deductible and no service charge.
"Our `One/Five Warranty' underscores Fleetwood's commitment for its products and services," said Pollis. "This warranty lets buyers know we are proud of our work and truly confident in the quality we offer."
Pollis said product improvements and the new warranty program are reinforced by Fleetwood's financing partnership with The Associates. The full-service program supplies attractive financing for Fleetwood home buyers, and it is available exclusively through the retail home centers in the distribution network. Pollis said the program has met with strong market acceptance.
Fleetwood's performance in Indiana supports the company's ranking as America's largest homebuilder. Setting new records for Fiscal Year 1993, the firm's 25 housing manufacturing centers produced 44,000 homes and generated sales of $774 million. Fleetwood's share of market grew to 19.4 percent for the calendar year, up from 18.8 percent for the previous period.
Pollis also said Fleetwood's focus on customer satisfaction has helped to generate wider acceptance of manufactured housing. He cited 1990 census figures that showed manufactured housing is the fastest- growing segment of the nation's home-building industry. For the 10-year period, figures show a net gain of 2.7 million.
Fleetwood Enterprises is headquartered in Riverside. The Fleetwood Housing Group now has 27 manufacturing centers selling to all 50 states. The Fortune 500 company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and offers a broad range of manufactured homes and recreational vehicles. More than 2 million people live in homes built by Fleetwood Enterprises. Fleetwood Homes of Indiana has one plant located in Garrett.
