FLEET RECEIVES GOLD CIRCLE PARTNERSHIP AWARD
CLAREMONT, N.H., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Fleet Bank of New Hampshire

today announced it is among 33 businesses statewide to receive the prestigious Gold Circle Partnership Achievement Award for its educational partnership with Stevens High School.
"Our partnership with Stevens High School is one of many 'Partners in Educational Excellence' statewide programs that provide educational opportunities to our youth," said Dean T. Holt, president and CEO of Fleet Bank of New Hampshire. "This program falls under our corporate- wide 'Fleet Youth Initiative' umbrella of events, sponsorships and issue-oriented projects for young people throughout New England to stretch their minds, skills, and imaginations."
During the last several years, Fleet Bank's Community Outreach Director, Marsha Miller, and Fleet's Senior Management, has worked closely with the educational community, specifically guidance counselors and college financial aid officers, to develop educational funding seminars for the post-secondary student.
In a joint effort between the Stevens High School Improvement Team and Fleet Bank, the group, led by Miller, developed a financial seminar for the school community that addressed how students can cope with the ever-increasing financial costs associated with a college education.
After several months of planning, some 100 parents and students attended the Stevens High School College Forum in late May. The forum included a panel comprised of a representative from Fleet Bank, Miller, freshman-year college students, the high school guidance counselor, and a parent whose child is currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
Provided by the bank during the two-hour seminar was a variety of alternative college funding options and ways to choose the best fiscal option dependent on a family's specific needs. Other topics included an overview of important college-related timelines such as FAF forms, PSAT/SAT dates and various scholarships available to the college-bound student.
"The information Fleet provided during the forum was invaluable to students and parents. We look forward to working with Fleet in the future to develop other financial forums that make the post-secondary financial transition easier," said Alfred Kaplinski, Stevens High School assistant principal.
Awards will be presented in celebration of National Community Education Day, Nov. 11 in Concord. Scheduled to participate in the awards ceremony are Governor Judd Gregg, Commissioner of Education Charles Marston, and NHPIE Executive Director Nancy Craig.
The award is sponsored by the office of the governor, the New Hampshire Department of Education, and the New Hampshire Partners in Education -- a program within the New Hampshire Community Education Center.
