FLEET BANK KICKS OFF MUSIC-IN-THE-SCHOOLS SERIES; K-6 STUDENTS
THROUGHOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE WILL EXPERIENCE LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES
NASHUA, N.H., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fleet Bank Music-In-The-Schools program, which will offer more than 100 live musical performances in 30 New Hampshire communities for children in grades K-6, will kick off with its first concert in Littleton at the Lakeway Elementary School March 3.
While educational budget cuts are limiting arts programs throughout the New Hampshire public elementary school system, the Fleet Bank Music-In-The-Schools program is designed to help ease the burden by offering cultural and educational support to enhance the learning experience of New Hampshire's young people.
The performances are presented by the New Hampshire Music Festival which for the past nine years has brought live music concerts to more than 100,000 children in public schools statewide.
"Fleet Bank, in recognition of the importance of the arts in education, is pleased to provide full sponsorship for the Music-in-The-Schools," said Dean Holt, president of Fleet Bank-NH. "This program is special because music is so inspirational for children of this age. Music helps to develop creativity and even helps to make a child aware of his/her heritage while creating an excitement for live musical performances."
Fifteen musical groups and musicians from New Hampshire have been selected by the New Hampshire Music Festival for the program. The musical styles include Civil War fiddle tunes, medieval chants, Scottish and Irish songs, classical, jazz, folk, and blues. Scheduled performers include: Fireside Winds; The Hampshire Consort; Moonbeams; Mountain Streams; and the New England Brass Quintet.
"We are very pleased to be a partner with Fleet Bank and the public school system in this effort to enrich our children," said David Graham, executive director of the New Hampshire Music Festival.
Fleet Bank, one of New Hampshire's leading financial institutions, is comprised of 35 branch offices located throughout the state. Fleet is part of the Fleet Norstar Financial Group (NYSE: FNG).
The New Hampshire Music Festival is one of the oldest and largest non-profit organizations in the state. It provides the public with a variety of musical events and educational programs throughout the state.
