 FLEET/NORSTAR'S MURRAY ELECTED DIRECTOR AT STATE MUTUAL
 WORCESTER, Mass., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire -- Terrence Murray, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Fleet/Norstar Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: FNG) has been elected to the board of directors at State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America, it was announced today by John F. O'Brien, State Mutual's president and chief executive officer.
 Murray joined the Fleet/Norstar organization in 1962 after graduation from Harvard College. He served in several of Fleet National Bank's branches and departments before he was elected president of the bank and Fleet Financial Group in 1978. He was elected to his current position in 1982.
 Murray is also a director of Fleet/Norstar Financial Group, Fleet National Bank, A.T. Cross Company, the Association of Reserve City Bankers, and a director and member of the Executive committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
 State Mutual, headquartered in Worcester, is the fifth-oldest life insurance company in the country and is ranked among the nation's Top 20 mutual life insurance companies on the basis of assets. It is a leading provider of financial security through insurance and investment products.
