FLAMES HALT HOLS JET.

Scots holidaymakers on a jet bound for the sunshine island of Lanzarote were evacuated yesterday when a passenger spotted flames on an engine.

The 243 passengers and eight crew abandoned the Airtours flight at Glasgow Airport just before take-off, and an Airtours spokesman said: "The pilot shut down the engines and brought the aircraft to a standstill after a passenger said they had seen a flame on the one engine."

Nobody was hurt and a new plane was later flown in from Manchester.
