FIT TO BE WRAPPED: HEALTHY GIFTS FOR THE PERSON WHO'S HARD TO BUY FOR
CHASKA, Minn., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- If you're agonizing over gift ideas for that special someone who appears to have everything, take a look at some of the latest fitness products on the market. Whether the person is big on fitness or merely a Jane Fonda wanna-be, the new in- home fitness equipment being offered by companies such as NordicTrack adds a fun and unique twist to standard fitness machine fare.
One such machine, NordicTrack's Aerobic Cross-Trainer(TM), combines a stair-stepper, cross-country skier and treadmill all in one. Not by coincidence, these three exercises were named the most popular for the '90s in a recent report from the Sporting Goods Manufacturer's Association.
According to NordicTrack President and CEO James R. Bostic, the Aerobic Cross-Trainer is ideal for the person who enjoys the variety of exercises available at the health club, but who cannot or will not sacrifice the time to drive across town, park their vehicle and then wait in long lines to use their favorite machines.
The trend toward exercising in the home has risen steadily in recent years. In April of this year, American Sports Data Inc. reported that health club enrollments remained virtually unchanged for the 1989-1991 period. In contrast, sales of fitness equipment, as reported by the National Sporting Goods Association, grew 16.4 percent in the same period to a total of $2 billion.
"As society continues its trend toward convenience, economy and a healthy, physically fit lifestyle, we'll begin seeing more and more unique, multi-purpose fitness machines that people can use in their own home," observed Jeff Zwiefel, director of the Minneapolis-based National Exercise For Life Institute.
The dual-function Total-Body Fitness System(TM), also from NordicTrack, is another example of this trend toward multi-purpose equipment for home use. This machine allows people to get aerobic and strength-training exercise all in one. It features a comfortable recumbent (reclined seat) bicycle for the aerobic component, and hand pulleys for upper-body strength training. According to fitness experts, this "balanced" approach to fitness offers health benefits above and beyond what people can achieve from doing one form of exercise alone.
Priced at $1,199.95 each, NordicTrack's Aerobic Cross-Trainer and the Total-Body Fitness System are sold through direct marketing and can be shipped to arrive in plenty of time for holiday gift-giving. For more information or to receive a free brochure or video, call 1-800-421-5910, ext. 804J2.
