FIT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF FAMILY OF SOFTWARE PRODUCTS
 FOR REAL-TIME TEXT SEARCH MARKET
FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- FIT Systems Inc. announced the release of TIPS and SPOT, a family of software products for the rapidly growing real-time text search market.
The TIPS toolbox consists of a programming library and systems integration tools which provide a full featured base for the development of high performance multi-user document routing systems. TIPS is available on a variety of platforms including: UNIX, MS-DOS, and VMS. The SPOT real-time text search system provides a turn-key UNIX based system which brings the capabilities of the TIPS system to the end-user.
Andrew Fregly, president of FIT Systems Inc., explained the role of the products: "What we offer is a set of products which allow the developer, the systems integrator and the end-user the capability of easily utilizing the full power of todays high performance CPUs in performing real-time searching and routing of just about any type of textual information. Our company has quite a few years of experience working with a customer base of developers and end-users who utilize real-time text search systems. We were very aware that none of the systems currently out there really take advantage of todays technology. Some of the major players have tried to force fit indexed search systems for use as real-time text search engines, resulting in slow highly resource intensive systems which require a very high performance hardware platform in order to be marginally usable. Other companies have marketed expensive 'hardware accelerated' text search systems which use woefully out-of-date technology. We will gladly match the performance and features of our search software with any of these types of systems."
The TIPS toolbox has been designed from the ground up for easy integration with a variety of applications. The programming library provides the nucleus of functions needed by an applications developer for creation of text search systems. The systems integration tools provided with TIPS give higher level access to the capabilities of the system, plus provide for easy import and export of documents being handled by the system.
The SPOT system provides an easily learned menu-driven user interface to a turn-key text search system which fully utilizes the document management power of the underlying TIPS search software. The system comes with all of the necessary pieces to allow its immediate use for the processing of news feeds from all of the major providers. The design of the SPOT system allows easy configuration of the system to handle documents from other sources, such as electronic mail and OCR input.
The underlying text search engine used by both TIPS and SPOT uses a proprietary algorithm developed by FIT Systems which gives the systems an unmatched combination of performance and features. The querying capabilities include: an extensive set of wild cards, ranges, boolean logic, phrases, proximity, thresholds and field searches. The search engine supports simultaneous searches by a number of queries which is limited only by the amount of memory available to the system. The search engine performs searches with amazing speed. Typically, queries on high end PC based platforms are done at speeds of 2 megabytes per second internally, far faster than most applications can provide data to the search engine. Since performance of the engine is proportional to the speed of the processor, even higher performance is easily achieved by use of RISC based platforms.
TIPS and SPOT are available now from FIT Systems Inc. The TIPS system is priced at $20,000 for an initial installation, with additional systems priced at $5,000. Resellers wishing to market the TIPS based system may opt for an annual renewable license fee, or a royalty based license fee. SPOT system prices start at $9,000 for PC based platforms. Significant volume discounts are available for both TIPS and SPOT.
