FISHING PIER FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED OPENED ON AUSABLE RIVER

MIO, Mich., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Physically challenged Michigan residents will now be able to use a new fishing pier on the AuSable River, constructed by members of the award-winning Northeast Michigan Sportsmen's Club, with assistance from Consumers Power Company and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).
The pier is located on the old bridge structure at Camp 10 Bridge in Big Creek Township, Oscoda County. The pier is designed to accommodate the needs of people with physical disabilities. Consumers Power and the Northeast Michigan Sportsmen's Club signed a license agreement which allowed construction of the pier to proceed. The MDNR provided a $5,000 grant towards construction of the facility.
"We applaud the sustained effort of the Northeast Michigan Sportsmen's Club, in particular Mr. Joe Pillars, in creating this fishing pier for handicapped citizens. Consumers Power has long supported expanded recreational opportunities along properties in which it has a vested interest," said Richard I. Ellerman, superintendent of Consumers Power's hydroelectric plants on the AuSable River.
Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest natural gas and electric utility serving six million of the state's nine and one-half million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
