FISHER-PRICE ANNOUNCES REVENUE DECLINE EXPECTED IN FIRST QUARTER

EAST AURORA, N.Y., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Fisher-Price, Inc. (NYSE: FPP) today announced that it now expects revenues for the first calendar quarter which ends on April 4, 1993 to be approximately 15 percent lower than the previous year and that this will result in a loss for the quarter. In the first quarter of 1992, Fisher- Price had net income of $3.4 million on revenues of $146.8 million.
The revenue decline is primarily in the United States and Fisher-Price believes that it reflects the increasing commitment of retailers to control their inventory levels, particularly early in the year as part of their emphasis on just-in-time inventory management. Fisher-Price had previously indicated that revenues could be adversely affected in the first six months of 1993 by this trend but the impact in the first quarter is greater than initially anticipated.
Revenue comparisons with last year are expected to remain difficult in the second calendar quarter. However, the results for the year are expected to be favorable as compared to 1992. Last year Fisher-Price reported net income of $41.3 million on revenues of $693.9 million.
Ronald J. Jackson, Chairman, President and CEO of Fisher- Price, Inc. stated that he "remains optimistic about 1993, as the Company's products performed well at retail during the fall of 1992 and retail momentum has been positive during the first quarter of 1993 with over the counter sales running ahead of last year. In addition, the 1993 product line was well received at the worldwide toy fairs held during January and February." He went on to state that, "the Company has excellent relationships with the major national and regional retailers, as evidenced by having received numerous Vendor of the Year awards for 1992 and commitments for increased product listings and retail shelf space for 1993."
Fisher-Price is an international manufacturer and marketer of children's products. Fisher-Price's Common Stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is traded under the symbol FPP.
