FISH IN FOR COMPLIMENTS; Want to make your friends go ga-ga at your tableware, decor and bathroom accoutrements? Go fishing to sea the light and you'll shore feel truly summery.

This gloomy summer has left me longing for sunnier days - all I can think about is packing up and heading off to somewhere warmer for a relaxing break at the seaside.

I'm obsessed with anything to do with that great big blue.

You just can't beat holiday snorkelling, face down in a turquoise heaven, following brightly coloured little fish as they dart about in the watery depths.

It's heavenly. And yes, I did deliberately use the word "little" fish there, because anything bigger than the palm of my hand has me thrashing to the shore quicker than you can squeak: "Jaws!" No, the only time I am a fan of getting up close and personal with a big fish is when it is served on a plate with a wedge of lemon and a glass of something chilled.

Or if it is a picture of one emblazoned on the plate itself.

In fact, there are no limits to where you can add a seafaring motif to your surroundings, so don't restrict yourself to the odd bit of crockery.

It's holiday time, so throw caution to the wind, and soon you'll find yourself falling hook, line and sinker for all things under the sea.

where to buy:,,,,,,, Trivets are always useful to have in the cupboard for those meals where you need to transfer hot dishes straight to the table. This is p erfect for fish dishes, as it gives the guests a little glimmer as to what may be coming for their main course.

Cork fish trivet, PS8.50, John Lewis I'm a big fan of diffusers, especially in places where you would rather not leave a candle burning out of sight but want your home to smell clean and fresh. I always put mine in the hallway, so even if my house is empty the diffuser is still cheerfully making light work of any stuffy smells.
