FIRST-TIME INVESTORS MOVE INTO MUTUAL FUNDS,
SEEK HELP WITH MUTUAL FUND BASICS
BOSTON, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- With the ranks of first-time mutual fund investors continuing to swell, the nation's largest fund company, Fidelity Investments, is taking steps to make it easier for first-time investors to get started.
"Fundamental changes in the economic landscape are contributing to the influx of new mutual fund investors," Roger Servison, president of Fidelity Investments Retail Marketing Co., said. In a recent survey of new customers calling Fidelity, more than half described themselves as "beginners." This is double the historical average of Fidelity's customers who identify themselves as beginners.
 Services for Less Experienced Investors
To introduce these new investors to mutual funds, Fidelity has published a new 23-page educational booklet, "The Fidelity Guide to Getting Started in Mutual Funds." Designed expressly for the person who is new to mutual fund investing, the free booklet contains definitions of terms and easy-to-follow examples.
"People who see themselves primarily as savers are expanding their financial horizons in order to protect their economic well being. The prolonged drop in interest rates, declines in regional real estate markets and baby boomers' growing concerns about saving for retirement are incentives to learn more about investing," Servison said.
"The Fidelity Guide to Getting Started in Mutual Funds" is one of seven free educational guides Fidelity makes available to investors. Available free by calling 800-544-8888 or by visiting a Fidelity Investor Center, the newest guide covers the types of mutual funds, how to receive income from mutual funds, share pricing, fees and charges.
Fidelity Investments is the nation's largest mutual fund company. With more than $185 billion in assets under management and 70 investor centers nationwide, Fidelity provides services to more than 7 million individual and institutional clients.
