FIRST WEST VIRGINIA GLASS FESTIVAL IN OGLEBAY BRINGS STATE'S BEST TO OGLEBAY AUG. 7-8

WHEELING, W.Va., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Everything is "go" for Oglebay's first West Virginia Glass Festival in Good Zoo on Aug. 7-8, when the state's finest glassmakers bring their newest products to the public, along with one-of-a-kind collectibles.
Closely related crafts such as pottery and candlemaking, dried and silk bouquets and West Virginia food products are included in the festival. Everything may be purchased.
Appalachian music and barbershop harmony and good food will enhance the festival.
Videos about glass processes will be shown in the zoo's theater. A marbleshooting demonstration will use West Virginia-made marbles. Steve, "the bee man," will grow a bee beard twice on Saturday as attendees watch. Honey is one of the products on sale.
Admission to the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, is $4.25 for adults and $3.25 for children. This includes admission to the glass museum and craftsmen center in Carriage House Glass, where glassblowing can be seen from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Glass historian Dr. James Measell will identify glass pieces on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for $1 an item with a limit of five pieces.
Glass was once the mainstay of West Virginia. To dispel the belief that it is still a has-been industry, Oglebay opened Carriage House Glass and stocked it with over two dozen different companies, the greatest number of West Virginia-made glass products in the country. Business has flourished since the November 1992 opening. When the Glass Craftsmen Center and Oglebay Institute Glass Museum was dedicated in June, it further enhanced respect for this industry which is, indeed, alive and well. It was a natural progression that a glass festival be set in Oglebay and become an annual affair. Attendees will meet the artists who produce these creations on Aug. 7 and 8 in Good Zoo, Oglebay.
Oglebay is 2-1/2 miles off Interstate 70 on Route 88 north, Wheeling.
