FIRST UNION TO SEND KEY INFORMATION ABOUT 'SEAMLESS TRANSITION' TO 400,000 FORMER DOMINION BANKSHARES CUSTOMERS IN VIRGINIA

ROANOKE, Va., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Virginia's newest and third- largest bank, First Union National Bank of Virginia, this week will mail key information about upcoming changes to 400,000 customers of Dominion Bankshares, which First Union acquired in March.
"This will be a seamless transition for our customers," said Ben Jenkins, president of First Union-Virginia, which operates 300 branches across the state. "Customers won't have to do a thing."
Customers can continue to use their Dominion personal checks, Dominion deposit slips and Dominion withdrawal slips until they exhaust their current supply. When customers reorder, First Union will send them new First Union checks, deposit slips and withdrawal slips with a new First Union account number.
First Union also will send customers new First Union automated teller machine (ATM) cards to replace their existing Dominion ATM cards. Customers' current ATM personal identification numbers (PINs) will remain valid with the new First Union ATM cards.
In addition, First Union will send customers new First Union Visa cards and MasterCards to replace their current Dominion credit cards.
Customers can continue to use their present ATM cards and credit cards until new ones arrive in the mail.
In mid-October, First Union will begin installing new First Union signs to replace Dominion signs at bank branches, operations centers and administrative offices. All signs will be changed by mid-December for a total cost of $7.4 million.
First Union National Bank of Virginia is part of First Union Corp. (NYSE: FTU FTUpr), America's eighth-largest banking company, with assets of $72 billion.
