FIRST UNION OFFERS AFFINITY CREDIT CARD WITH N.C. ASSOCIATION OF RESCUE & EMS

 GOLDSBORO, N.C., Nov. 19 ~PRNewswire~ -- First Union Visa customers can now help save lives and aid those who are sick and injured, thanks to a new affinity credit card offered in conjunction with the N.C. Association of Rescue & EMS (Emergency Medical Services).
 Every time a customer uses this special VISA card, First Union will make a contribution to the association. Organized in 1957, the N.C. Association of Rescue and EMS is based in Goldsboro and has more than 14,000 members throughout the state. Most of the members are volunteers who have completed training to become Emergency Medical Technicians.
 "We're very pleased to announce this special relationship with such a reputable organization," said Crowell Little, First Union's Goldsboro city executive. "It's rare that we can offer customers the chance not only to get an excellent product with competitive rates, but also the chance to do good in their communities."
 Gordon Joyner, secretary~treasurer of the association, said the contributions will help Rescue and EMS workers in North Carolina provide better service and help defray the cost of equipment and supplies.
 The card offers these features:
 -- Annual percentage rate of prime plus 7.9 percent (which would be
 13.9 percent at today's rates);
 -- A credit line of up to $5,000;
 -- No interest on purchases if the balance is paid full within 25
 days of the statement date;
 -- Quick access to cash at thousands of automated teller machines
 worldwide;
 -- Convenience checks, used like personal checks, for easy access to
 the customer's account;
 -- Acceptance around the world at more than 7 million
 establishments;
 -- $150,000 in travel accident insurance at no charge;
 -- A toll-free customer service line.
 Customers do not need to change banks or live in North Carolina to apply for the card. However, they can automatically transfer balances from non-First Union credit cards to the new First Union account through the bank's CardSmart Transfer option.
