FIRST UNION CORPORATION NAMES ROBERT WORLEY PERSONNEL DIRECTOR

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert W. Worley Jr. has been appointed Director of Personnel for First Union Corporation (NYSE: FTU FTUpr).
 "Bob's experience and talent will be of great value to our company as the technical, legal and management complexity of personnel related issues increases," said Don R. Johnson, director of First Union Corporation Human Resources Division. "In addition to his strong people skills, Bob has the strategic vision to ensure that our growing company continues to meet our future human resources challenges and opportunities."
 Since 1986, Worley has been Director of Human Resources of First Union National Bank of Florida. From December 1985 to July 1986, he was manager of human resource development for First Union National Bank of North Carolina. Prior to that, he was the personnel division manager for Northwestern Bank in Wilkesboro, N.C.
 Worley holds a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a master's of business administration degree from the University of North Florida. He served on the advisory board for the Center for Human Resources at Florida State University. He is a member of the University Cluster at Florida A&M University.
 First Union Corporation is the nation's 12th largest bank holding company based on assets of $48.3 billion as of September 30, 1992. When First Union's pending acquisitions are completed, the company is expected to have assets of approximately $66 billion, making it the nation's eighth largest bank holding company.
