FIRST OF AMERICA BANK-SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN, N.A. TO UNDERWRITE
 DETROIT INNER CITY SOCCER PROGRAM
DETROIT, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- First of America Bank-Southeast Michigan, N.A. announced today that it has joined with the Detroit Recreation Department and civic leaders on Detroit's east side to become the major underwriter and co-sponsor of the Detroit Inner City Soccer Program. To inaugurate the program, a special kick-off event will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 2-4 p.m.
First of America Bank-Southeast Michigan, N.A. will cover the program's equipment and uniform expenses. Richard Spears, First of America Bank-Southeast Michigan, N.A. president and chief executive officer, said, "This contribution reflects our continuing commitment of developing partnerships in the communities we serve."
In recent years, soccer has gained increasing popularity among suburban youths; however, until now, this sport has been unavailable to Detroit's inner city children. Howard B. Hill, an international attorney with Pepper, Hamilton & Scheetz and a member of the executive committee for Michigan World Cup '94, was instrumental in bringing this program together in anticipation of the international soccer games which will take place at the Pontiac Silverdome in the summer of '94.
To introduce the Detroit Inner City Soccer Program, several team members of the Detroit Rockers professional indoor soccer team will host a free soccer clinic/demonstration Saturday at Cannon Recreation Center at 5120 Cadieux at East Warren in Grosse Pointe Park.
