FIRST INTERSTATE SELECTS ADVANTIS FOR NETWORK MANAGEMENT DUTIES

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- First Interstate Bank has chosen Advantis(A) to assume management and operation responsibility for its wide area network.
The three-year contract calls for Advantis, a networking technology company, to provide network operation and management, problem determination and design services for First Interstate Bank's network. The services will be provided by Advantis from its Boulder, Colo. operation center for First Interstate's network that connects the bank's 993 branch offices in 13 western states to its two data centers.
The agreement provides substantial savings potential for First Interstate, the nation's 10th largest bank, and was competitively awarded.
"We were looking for a company that could undertake the management of our network, providing first-rate service with no disruption to our users," said Diana Leathers, First Interstate Bank senior vice president of information services. "There are substantial financial benefits, as well as a commitment to a partnership and an opportunity to work with a company dedicated to customer satisfaction."
"The contract with First Interstate Bank is a long-term partnership that reflects our commitment to customer satisfaction," said Bruce R. Jackson, Advantis vice president of Custom Network Solutions marketing. "First Interstate can now focus on what it know best -- the banking business -- while relying on Advantis for its networking solution."
Advantis provides an unequaled spectrum of network offerings including design, re-engineering, integration and outsourcing. Custom networking solutions provide privately managed hardware, software and bandwidth. Value-added network services include electronic mail and electronic data interchange (EDI). The company, a partnership formed by IBM, through its wholly owned subsidiary Integrated Systems Solutions Corporation (ISSC) and Sears, Roebuck and Co. was announced in August 1992 and began operation Dec. 1, 1992. Advantis is headquartered in Schaumburg, Ill., a suburb northwest of Chicago.
First Interstate is the 10th-largest commercial banking company in the United States. Its 991 domestic offices in 13 western states serve individuals, small businesses, middle market companies and selected large corporations and financial institutions. First Interstate provides quality common financial products and services marketed at the local level to nearly 5 million households in over 600 western U.S. communities.
