 FIRST FLORIDA BANKS, INC. SETS SPECIAL SHAREHOLDER MEETING DATE
 TAMPA, Fla., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- First Florida Banks, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: FFBK) today announced the date for its special shareholders meeting to vote on a proposal to approve the Agreement and Plan of Reorganization dated May 17, 1992, between Barnett Banks, Inc. (NYSE: BBI) and First Florida Banks, Inc. On May 18, 1992, Barnett and First Florida announced that they had signed a definitive merger agreement. The special meeting has been set for Friday, Sept. 11, 1992, at 10 a.m. Shareholders of record as of the close of business on July 22, 1992, will be entitled to vote at the meeting, which will be held at the Downtown Hyatt Regency, 211 North Tampa Street, Tampa, Fla.
 With $32.4 billion in assets and 587 offices in Florida and Georgia, Barnett Banks, Inc. is Florida's leading financial institution and the 18th-largest in the United States. Its stock (BBI) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
 Separately, First Florida announced that the Form S-4/Joint Proxy Statement in connection with the proposed merger has been declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"). In connection with a review by the SEC, the company revised its Dec. 31, 1991, and March 31, 1992, financial statements to reclassify certain investment securities to "Investment Securities Held for Sale." The revisions involved reclassifying investment securities with a stated value of $628.6 million as of Dec. 31, 1991, and $10.5 million as of March 31, 1992. The revisions of previously issued financial statements had no effect on total capital, total assets, or earnings. As of June 30, 1992, the company had no securities classified as Investment Securities Held for Sale.
 First Florida Banks, Inc. is a Tampa, Fla.-based bank holding company with $5.3 billion in assets as of June 30, 1992, and operates 144 banking offices along Florida's West Coast from Pensacola to Naples/Marco Island, and throughout the Central Florida area to the Atlantic Coast.
