FIRST BANKS INTRODUCE AN ATM MINI-STATEMENT
MINNEAPOLIS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting April 1, First Banks

390,000 automated teller machine (ATM) cardholders will be able to order a printout of their last 10 checking account transactions from 350 Fastbank ATMs. The transactions will appear on the standard ATM receipt. First Bank is the first financial institution in the region to offer an ATM "Mini-Statement" according to Patricia Bauer, senior vice president and manager of retail deposit products for First Bank System.
"The Mini-Statement is geared to helping customers who keep a low checking account balance or those who don't regularly balance their checkbooks and want to determine where they are financially between monthly statements," Bauer said. "We believe it also will be a convenience for customers with joint accounts where every separate transaction may not be carefully written down."
The Mini-Statement will be offered free through April 30, 1992. After that time cardholders can select the Mini-Statement option with a service charge of 50 cents which will be assessed to their checking account. Bauer said that account recaps from ATMs have been a popular customer convenience in other parts of the United States with fees ranging up to $1.00.
Bauer also noted that First Bank is considering other ATM enhancements which could include providing access to loan accounts, ordering checks and stop payments, and buying postage stamps, bus passes and gift certificates.
The Mini-Statement is currently available only at the 350 Fastbanks owned by First Bank System. An additional 215 Fastbank locations owned by correspondent banks that are members of the Fastbank network may offer the Mini-Statement in the future. The Mini-Statement is not available from ATMs of other financial institutions that currently have reciprocal ATM sharing agreements with FBS.
First Bank customers can also access account information via telephone through Fastline, a 24-hour banking service.
First Bank operates Fastbanks in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana.
