 FIRST BANK SYSTEM LOWERS REFERENCE RATE TO 6.0 PERCENT
 MINNEAPOLIS, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Effective today, First Bank


System, Inc. (NYSE: FBS), is lowering its reference rate to 6.0 percent from 6.5 percent.
 First Bank also lowered the best rate on its ExpressLine revolving line of credit that includes a Visa card to 8.96 percent. The bank noted that other consumer loans, such as home equity secured lines of credit, that are tied to prime also will benefit from the decrease and will be as low as 8 percent. The rate on First Bank's relationship credit card, First Rate, will decrease to 12.9 percent from 13.4 percent, with a special 10.9 percent rate for balance transfers from another bank's credit card.
