FIRST "GREEN PETROL" PAYMENT CARDS DISTRIBUTED.
We are promoting in Pelagonija today the start of the measure of ensuring cheaper petrol for farming machinery. To this end we have provided 200 million denars from the Direct Payments Program. The measure will benefit 55,000 farmers growing cereals, vegetables, grapes and fruits. The government is going to cover 30 percent of their costs for petrol, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in the Bitola village of Kravari Wednesday.
Accompanied by Agriculture Minister Trajan Dimkovski, he distributed the first green petrol payment cards to local farmers. Zaev said that most production costs are for purchasing petrol. Therefore, prices of agricultural products are high, which is affecting their competiveness both at home and abroad.
"Farmers have been calling for cheaper petrol or 'green petrol' for more than 10 years. Therefore, when we took power one of the first measures we seriously started working on was making this possible. We know that this is the best way to help farmers cut production costs and earn more," the prime minister said.
The subsidies will initially cover 30 percent of the farmers' petrol costs and could later climb up to 50 percent. The funds in the green petrol payment cards have to be used by the end of April 2020.
