FINGERHUT TO OPEN TENNESSEE TELEMARKETING FACILITY IN FORMER SEARS LOCATION

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Fingerhut Companies, Inc. (NYSE: FHT) announced that it will open a telemarketing center in Johnson City, Tenn., leasing at the site formerly occupied by the Sears telecatalog center. The Fingerhut facility is expected to open in spring 1994.
"Johnson City was selected because of the excellent experienced work force available and its proximity to our Bristol, Tenn., distribution center," said Betty Bothereau, Fingerhut vice president, consumer and environmental affairs.
The new telemarketing center will initially open with 200-300 part- time customer service and order taking representatives, and will employ more than 1,000 for the busy fourth quarter selling season. Bill Russell, newly appointed manager for the center, was also the manager when Sears operated the facility. "We are pleased that Bill has joined the Fingerhut team," said Bothereau. "He brings a wealth of experience, and more importantly, the knowledge of the community and the center which will ensure a smoother start-up and a more efficient operation."
