FINE DODGERS FORCED TO PAY DEBTS; Dawn raids on criminals.

FINE dodgers in Birmingham have been dragged from their beds and hauled straight before courts in a bid to force them to pay up.

Nearly 200 have been rounded up this week with the courts recovering more than pounds 20,000 from those able to settle debts immediately.

Others were slapped with bigger penalties and final warnings, while magistrates sentenced four of the most serious offenders to spells behind bars.

Sgt Helen Carver, who led Operation Crackdown, said it was a "short, sharp shock" to remind dodgers owing money they will be chased.
