TROY, Mich., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Findlay Industries, with headquarters in Findlay, Ohio, and a Sales & Engineering Center in Troy, has received two major contract awards for its ProBond(R) molded urethane headliners. Findlay has long been a supplier of headliners for heavy trucks. The new orders mark the company's entry into the passenger car and light-truck headliner markets.
Findlay Industries was selected by Volkswagen of Mexico to supply its semi-modular, ProBond Acoustic-Grade headliners for the new 1994 Golf III and Jetta III models (both with and without sunroofs) to be built in Puebla, Mexico. The award is especially significant in view of the fact that Findlay was one of nine suppliers from the United States, Mexico and Germany vying for the business.
In announcing the contract award, Findlay Industries' Vice President of Operations Michael Gardner said, "We are very pleased and proud to have been selected by Volkswagen to supply our ProBond headliners for their brand-new 1994 Golf III and Jetta III models produced in Mexico. We were chosen on the basis of our engineering strengths, the flexibility of our product in terms of application, low cost and our ability to meet the customer's design specifications without having to alter our materials mix."
Findlay will produce the ProBond headliners at a facility in Puebla directly adjacent to Volkswagen's assembly plant, making it the company's fourth JIT (just-in-time) delivery operation. The Volkswagen business will position Findlay Industries as the leading headliner producer in Mexico, with approximately 50 percent of the market.
The other new headliner order was received from a U.S. manufacturer for its line of full-size vans. The model-year 1996 order for semi- modular van headliners with integrated HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) ducting was also won in a global competitive bidding environment. Gardner attributed winning the contract to Findlay being able to offer the customer the best acoustic package at the lowest cost and the company's high level of engineering and design support.
Commenting further on the new contracts, Gardner said, "For over 30 years Findlay Industries has been an important supplier of automotive and heavy-truck interior components, including complete seats, soft trim, trim panels and convertible tops. We molded our first light- vehicle ProBond headliner prototypes in the fall of last year. To have come this far in landing these two key contracts in less than 10 months speaks volumes about the dedication of our design, engineering, manufacturing and sales people and their abilities. My hat's off to them for launching us into these major new markets so quickly and professionally."
