SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS *****

CH4 1.45pm

Hilarious British comedy with Terry-Thomas giving his archetypal performance as a dastardly "gentleman". This time, his caddish behaviour gets up the nose of a shy company owner who sets out to change his ways by enrolling at a school which promises to make him manipulative and devious. Alastair Sim and Ian Carmichael also star.

12 ANGRY MEN *****

SKY MOVIES CLASSICS 7.20pm

One of the best legal dramas ever made, this almost unbearably tense and claustrophobic offering focuses on a jury's efforts to decide whether a teenager is guilty of murder. When one of the dozen has doubts about convicting the lad, he tries to persuade the rest not to condemn him - something which proves particularly difficult. Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley and Jack Klugman star.

BLOOD SIMPLE *****

SKY MOVIES INDIE 9pm

Brilliant crime thriller, the first offering from the Coen brothers. A bar owner learns his wife is cheating on him, so hires a ruthless private eye to bump her off. However, he isn't happy with the plan, so tweaks it - a move which results in numerous double-crosses, not to mention a variety of twists and turns. M.Emmet Walsh, Dan Hedaya (both top), Frances McDormand and John Getz head the cast.

SALTWATER ****

BBC2 12.15am

Brendan Gleeson (above) has to be one of the most versatile actors working today. Unconvinced? Check out his turn in this under-rated gem from playwright Conor McPherson. Gleeson plays a chipshop owner, struggling to make ends meet, whose son takes it upon himself to rob a bookies' in order to help his father. The brilliant cast includes Brian Cox, Peter McDonald and Eva Birthistle.

STUDENT SEDUCTION ***

BBC1 12.25am

A troubled school pupil begins to fantasise about his new teacher, and makes a pass at her. Shocked by his actions, she immediately reports the incident - only to have the tables turned on her when the culprit claims she made the first move. Fact-based drama, starring Elizabeth Berkley.
