FILENE'S BASEMENT SALES UP 25 PERCENT WELLESLEY, Mass., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Filene's Basement Corp.,
(NASDAQ: BSMT) reported net sales for the four-week period ended Nov. 2, 1991 of $44.1 million, an increase of 25 percent from sales of $35.3 million for the same period in 1990. Comparable store sales for the four weeks this year were up 1 percent from the same period last year.
For the nine months ended Nov. 2, 1991, sales were $325.7 million, up 15 percent from last year. Comparable store sales for the nine months this year were down 1 percent from the same year-to-date period last year. In commenting on the October sales results, Jim Anathan, Filene's Basement president, said, "We were generally pleased with our comp store performance particularly in view of the unseasonably warm weather in New England and the continued effects of the recession. At the same time, we continue to be highly encouraged by the continuing momentum of our three new Chicago stores." Filene's Basement Corp., operates specialty stores which offer focused, quality, branded assortments of men's and women's apparel at discount prices. The company has 37 stores, primarily in the Northeast corridor extending from Portland, Maine, to Philadelphia.
