FIDELITY NAMES NEW PRESIDENT OF FIDELITY BROKERAGE
BOSTON, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Fidelity Investments CEO Edward

C. "Ned" Johnson today announced that Thomas E. Meade has been named president of Fidelity Brokerage Services, Inc. (FBSI). Meade, 50, is a 23-year veteran of the brokerage industry, having served as senior vice president of A.G. Edwards and most recently as president and chief operating officer of Kemper Securities Group Holdings. FBSI, the retail arm of Fidelity Brokerage Group, is one of the largest discount brokers in America, with 1.8 million customer accounts and offices in 66 cities.
"For Fidelity in the 1990s, one of the most important strategic initiatives is the expansion of our brokerage business," said Gordon R. Watson, Fidelity Brokerage Group president and Fidelity managing director. "We need experienced brokerage executives like Tom Meade to make that happen. Tom's mission is to sustain and build our momentum in retail brokerage, ultimately making it the premier organization in the business."
Watson recently revealed across-the-board expansion plans for FSBI including an aggressive new branch opening program, 20 percent increase of sales representatives in existing investor centers, new systems development, and expansion into additional markets this year.
"It's exhilarating to be on the Fidelity team," said Meade. "The resources in terms of people, systems, and product are unmatched. Fidelity is already a brokerage powerhouse -- but it's hidden in the shadow of the mutual fund business. It is my goal to change that and focus FBSI people on the single objective of first-rate customer service."
 Meade's appointment is effective Feb. 2, 1992.
Fidelity Investments is one of the nation's largest financial services firms, with over $160 billion under management and another $50 billion in customer brokerage accounts.
