 FIDELITY INVESTMENTS MONTHLY SURVEY OF INDIVIDUAL U.S. INVESTORS;
 INVESTOR SENTIMENT STABILIZES IN DECEMBER
 BOSTON, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. investor sentiment stabilized in December after four consecutive declines. The index stands at 70.9 in December, up from 69.2 in November. And, after months of adding to their stock fund holdings, investors intend to scale back on their purchases.
 According to the survey of U.S. investors, conducted for Fidelity Investments by the University of Michigan Survey Research Center, net purchase intentions for stock funds dropped from 39 percent in November to 13 percent in December. This is the index's lowest level since July 1990.
 "While investors continue to plan to purchase stock funds, it's not surprising that they intend to scale back some after several months of very strong sales," said Michael Hines, senior vice president of marketing at Fidelity Investments.
 Other survey findings: regionally, sentiment in the Northeast fell to 60.4 in December from 68.4 in November, over 10 points below the national index. Investor expectations rose to 62.7 in December from 60.6 in November, after four consecutive declines. Results from December's survey also indicate that more investors see now as a better time to buy durable goods than in November.
