FIBRONICS INTRODUCES NEW FDDI TRANSLATION BROUTER
FIBRONICS INTRODUCES NEW FDDI TRANSLATION BROUTER HYANNIS, Mass., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Fibronics International Inc.
(NASDAQ: FBRX) today announced the availability of the FX8210-B, a multi-protocol FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) brouter that increases network efficiency, interoperability and flexibility in large heterogeneous networks by providing transparent, high-performance routing and bridging functions.
"As networks evolve and become more complex, debate continues as to whether bridges or routers are the best solution," said John Hislop, chief executive officer for Fibronics. "With our new FDDI brouter, network managers don't have to sacrifice network speed for intelligent functions. The FX8210-B combines the best of bridging and routing functions to allow for efficient management of newtork traffic." The FX8210-B offers flexible configurations, which provide an easy migration path for companies moving from simple, isolated Ethernet/802.3 LANs to extended FDDI backbone LANs with complex configurations. Network managers can further specify FX8210-B's routing and traffic patterns, as well as the exclusive operation of either translation bridge, router or brouter functions. The FX8210-B integrates the routing of IP and DECnet data packets and translation bridging capabilities, transparently processing all known protocols to create a network gateway that connects FDDI and Ethernet LANs. By transferring all types of data transparently from one network to another, the FX8210-B easily operates with a broad range of multi-vendor bridges, routers and direct-connect devices. "Our new standards-based brouter overcomes the limitations of having to choose between either bridging or routing technology," said Bill Panepinto, director of marketing for Fibronics. "It maximizes the resources of an organization because it is easy to install, move and manage, as networks change and grow." The new Fibronics brouter connects up to two Ethernet/802.3 networks to an FDDI backbone. Each attachment features the high speed and performance of an FDDI network bridge and the increased control of a network router. Comprehensive FDDI management is provided by Fibronics' UNIX-based InterView NMS (Network Management Systems) through the standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) agent in the brouter. This agent also allows the brouter to be managed by any other standard SNMP manager. The Fibronics FX8210-B brouter complies with applicable industry standards, including IEEE 802.1D, ANSI, ISO and Internet RFCs. It is available now and priced at $21,990 in a single Ethernet configuration.
