FF ready to take on Sinn Fein.

FIANNA Fail top brass have ordered an overhaul of the party in a bid to stave off the rise of Sinn Fein.

The party will meet next week and top of the agenda will be ways of overhauling the party 'from top to bottom' according to sources.

The meeting follows claims within the party that Sinn Fein are 'running circles' around Fianna Fail in many of the country's major cities.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is fully behind the revamp which will be discussed at the Merrion Hotel this Friday.

He feels the current cumann structure may be now outdated - especially in the Dublin area.

Many backbenchers including Laois/Offaly TD John Moloney feel the party is not attracting young people into its ranks.

He said party meetings often consisted of 'three old men in their 60s'.

"We have to define ways of involving everyone," he said.

As well as a restructuring of the party, the meeting will touch on current topics including childcare costs and the possible restoration of the first time house buyers grant.
