FES UNIT RECEIVES $1.6 MILLION ORDER FOR REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS

WALTHAM, Mass., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen Inc. (AMEX: TGN) today announced that its FES, Inc. subsidiary has received a $1.6 million order from Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation, a joint venture between Dow Corning Corporation, Shin-Etsu Handotai, and Mitsubishi Metal Corporation, for low-temperature refrigeration systems to be used in the production of polycrystalline silicon for semiconductors.
Included in the project are five compressor packages -- each with two rotary screw compressors, shell and tube refrigerant condensers and receivers, and low-temperature chiller units -- and one spare screw compressor drive line. All components use environ-mentally accepted refrigerants. The systems will chill certain chemicals used in the manufacturing process at Hemlock's facility in Hemlock, Mich., which is currently undergoing major expansion.
 J. Timothy Corcoran, president of FES, said, "By working closely with Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor since the early development phase of this contract, we have been able to design refrigeration systems for this specialized application that will result in maximum efficiency in both the execution of the project and in its final operation."
Delivery of the equipment to Hemlock Semiconductor is to be completed in phases be?n October and December 1993.
Tecogen Inc. manufactures, markets, and services natural gas engines for vehicular and stationary applications, marine engines, industrial refrigeration equipment, and natural gas-fueled commercial cooling and cogeneration systems. The company also conducts research and development on advanced systems for clean-coal combustion and other high-efficiency gas-fueled devices. Tecogen Inc., to be renamed Thermo Power Corporation, subject to shareholder approval at the company's annual meeting on March 11, 1993, is a subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation.
