FES SUBSIDIARY RECEIVES $2.5 MILLION ORDER TO UPGRADE REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS AT RUSSIAN REFINERY

WALTHAM, Mass., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Power Corporation (AMEX: THP) today announced that its FES, Inc. subsidiary has been awarded a $2.5 million contract from a Russian trading company for refrigeration equipment to be used at the Orsk Refinery in Orsk, Russia, marking FES's first significant contract in that country.
FES will supply three ammonia-based screw-compressor refrigeration systems and related computer-based supervisory controls to upgrade and replace existing refrigeration machinery used in the processing of oil products. Preliminary design work has already begun and the equipment will be manufactured at FES's York, Pennsylvania, facility and shipped to Russia in skidded segments early in the summer of 1994. Under contract terms, FES will receive advance cash payments as work progresses.
"This order reflects the interest of refinery operators throughout the former Eastern bloc countries in adopting the latest technologies and products in order to modernize existing oil-processing facilities," said J. Timothy Corcoran, president of FES. "Our penetration of emerging markets in Russia, the People's Republic of China (PRC), and other countries is in line with our strategy to expand our presence in foreign markets that have promising opportunities for growth."
FES is currently supplying similar equipment to the PRC for refinery upgrades and expansion programs now under way in that country.
