FES DIVISION RECEIVES ORDER FOR EIGHT NATURAL GAS ENGINE-DRIVEN REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS

WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The FES division of Thermo Power Corporation (AMEX: THP) has been awarded a $500,000 contract for eight industrial refrigeration screw-compressor packages powered by natural gas engines. These systems are based on ammonia, a non-ozone depleting refrigerant.
The units will be installed in a processing facility that supplies products to the pizza segment of the food industry, where cold-room temperatures must be maintained as low as minus 30 degrees F.
Marshall J. Armstrong, chairman and chief executive officer of Thermo Power, said, "This is a significant project for our company because it exemplifies our commitment to providing products that benefit the environment. These units employ an environmentally safe refrigerant and alternative fuel. This order also establishes our first product line combining the expertise of the three Thermo Power divisions, for use in the industrial refrigeration food industry."
The 7.4 liter natural gas engines will be provided by the company's Crusader Engines division, and the gas engine packaging knowledge of the Tecogen division will be combined with the refrigeration, screw-compressor, and package manufacturing expertise of FES. The units will be produced at FES's production complex in York, Pa., and are scheduled for delivery in February 1994.
Thermo Power Corporation manufactures, markets, and services natural gas engines for vehicular and stationary applications, marine engines, industrial refrigeration equipment, and natural gas-fueled commercial cooling and cogeneration systems. The company also conducts research and development on advanced systems for clean-coal combustion and other high-efficiency gas-fueled devices. Thermo Power is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO).
